Our Story

For over 30 years, Ellerslie Road Preschool has been a much loved part of the South Edmonton community. We are honoured to have been a part of the early learning journey for hundreds , if not thousands, of children and we remain deeply committed to providing a warm and supportive foundation for every child who walks through our doors.

Ā

Starting in June 2026, Ellerslie Road Preschool will be under the new ownership of our current staff member Kayla Spenrath. She will be joined by many of our existing teachers, ensuring a seamless transition. Our team remains fully committed to upholding the same high quality standards, traditions and exceptional learning experiences that our families have come to know and love.

Ellerslie Road Preschool is in Ellerslie Road Baptist Church located on Ellerslie Road just West of Calgary Trail.

KaylaĀ

Hi families! I am thrilled to introduce myself as the new owner of Ellerslie Road Preschool. Having been a teacher here for the past two years, I have grown to love this community deeply, and I’m so excited to continue teaching some of our 4-year-old classes. My connection to this school is very personal—my own daughter attended this preschool, and I completed my practicum here as well, which is how I first joined the team. My background includes working as an Educational Assistant with Edmonton Public Schools, where I supported children in both Special Needs Pre-K and Kindergarten, and I earned my Level 2 Early Childhood Education certificate in 2024. My passion is early learning, and you will often find me singing songs with the children or setting up exciting, sensory-rich art experiences to spark their curiosity. Outside of the classroom, I am a mom to a wonderful 7-year-old daughter who is my whole world. In my spare time, we love to craft together and get lost in a good book. I am honored to lead this school and look forward to creating wonderful memories with your children.

Sue

Hi there! I’m Sue, and I am thrilled to be a part of the Ellerslie Road Preschool family. My journey with Ellerslie Road Preschool actually started as a parent when my own children attended, and I fell in love with this wonderful community. Now, with my Level 1 certification and 12 years of hands-on experience, I dedicate my career to creating that same safe, nurturing, play-based environment for your little ones. I am always thinking up new, fun, engaging activities and am especially passionate about creating unique sensory activities and setting up imaginative dramatic play experiences that bring our classroom to life. I can't wait to welcome your children into our classroom and watch them grow!

Vicki

Hi, I’m Vicki, and I am a Level 1 Child Development Assistant here at Ellerslie Road Preschool! I am incredibly proud to say I’ve been a part of the Ellerslie family for 15 years. My journey here has come full circle—I actually started out as an assistant, transitioned to teaching my own classes for 6 years, and am now back assisting alongside my best friend! Together, we focus on sparking curiosity, encouraging kind friendships, and bringing imagination to life through fun artwork and creative play. Outside of the classes, you can find me walking our two rescue dogs, hosting Sunday family dinners, doing Pilates, or out on the course getting back into golf. I can’t wait for another wonderful year of helping your little ones learn, connect, and discover—thanks for entrusting your littles with us!

Apple

Hello everyone! My name is Apple, and I'm from Hong Kong but moved to Canada in 2022. My first language is Cantonese, and I also speak Mandarin. My first job in Canada was here at Ellerslie Road preschool and I have loved the last four years! I am currently studying at Robertson College to earn my Level 2 Early Childhood Educator certification. I truly enjoy working with children, helping them learn and grow. In my free time, I love watching Disney movies, visiting Disneyland and travelling. My favourite city is Tokyo because I love the food and culture. I am thrilled to be returning for another year at Ellerslie Road Preschool and look forward to supporting your children as they learn, grow and discover new things.

Kim

Hi! I’m Kim! I’m passionate about creating a classroom where children feel safe, loved, and excited to learn. Originally from Venezuela, I’m bilingual in English and Spanish and enjoy connecting with children and families from many different backgrounds. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education and love creating warm, caring environments where children feel valued and excited to learn through play. Building meaningful relationships with children and their families is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. Outside of the classroom, I’m a mom of two who enjoys spending time with my family, staying active, drawing, and getting creative with arts and crafts. I feel fortunate to be part of the Ellerslie Road Preschool community and look forward to sharing many wonderful learning experiences with the children and families here.

Developing fine motor skills is vital for preschoolers, as it builds the coordination and finger strength needed for everyday tasks like writing, drawing, and self-care.

Building early literacy skills provides a vital foundation for language development and critical thinking while fostering a lifelong love for reading and discovery.

Social growth is vital for preschoolers as it helps them build lasting friendships, learn to empathize with peers, and gain the necessary confidence to navigate their world with kindness and curiosity.

Consistent physical activity is vital for preschoolers because it strengthens their small bodies, develops gross motor skills, and encourages healthy habits for a lifetime of wellness.

Math and science are central to our preschool day, as they encourage problem-solving and curiosity while building a solid groundwork for your child's future academic success.

Messy play and sensory activities are key to our preschool program, as they encourage healthy brain development and help children learn self-regulation.
